About Us
Empowering Communities for a Better Today and Tomorrow
Just Harvest was founded in 2022 as a result of the real and clear need for healthy, and stable food resources that were easily accessible to all communities of the Virginia Tidewater. Brought to life by the efforts of a diverse group of friends with a passion for community advocacy, the organization has quickly grown from a side discussion in a resiliency planning summit to an operable non-profit in just a few months time. Moving from talk to table, the friends turned directors, have backgrounds ranging from academia and agriculture to community safety and spiritual leadership. The motley crew work diligently to fulfill their mission of dismantling food apartheid through education and community building.

Philosophy
Creating Something Better
Just Harvest is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering Black, Indigenous and marginalized communities to achieve independence and autonomy through food sovereignty and community connectivity. Founded by Black, Indigenous, and allied people, the organization has deep roots in the Tidewater area that it serves. The Directors of Just Harvest have the shared philosophy that community successes originate from internal advocacy and culturally responsive education, not remote charity efforts and paternalistic leadership. The best solutions to social problems come from within.
